Coldest APRIL night in Meopham area
The previous night saw an overnight low of -5.3c in Shipley Hils Road frost hollow in Meopham. For 24 hours that was the coldest APRIL night in the Meopham area for at least 26 years, comparing readings from the nearest Met Office station being Gravesend Broadness where records began in February 1996
The coldest APRIL temperature recorded at Gravesend Broadness was -5.1c on the 7th April 2013. There was another Met Office station in Gravesend (Gravesend No2) located in the town by the promenade. Despite records beginning here in 1978 and ended in January 1996 but records are incomplete.
Also, no other local private weather stations have recorded a lower temperature in APRIL (according to records available online).
Our records here in Meopham go back to 1974 and again are very patchy prior to 2012.
The current nearest Met Office weather station to Meopham is at East Malling. Situated 9 miles away and on the otherside of Wrotham Hill so its not really local or a good comparison but does have a complete data set going back to 1925. Having checked as far back as 1970, the coldest APRIL night here was -4.5c, also on 7th April 2013.
