Keld in North Yorkshire, records an Overnight Minimum temperature of -7.0c – Thu 14/May/20

On the morning of Tuesday 14th May 2020, an amateur weather station (PWS) run by @northyorkswx recorded a remarkable overnight minimum temperature of -7.0c. This was due to cold arctic air moving down from the North Pole. Eventhough, this is an outstanding minimum temperature for the middle of May.

The coldest Met Office station was Katesbridge in Northern Ireland which recorded -6.1c and that was the coldest May night in Northern Ireland since 1982.

In fact the Met Office record for the 14th May is at Braemar (Aberdeenshire) 1915 with -6.7 and it was only 2.4c off the all time UK record for May, held jointly by Lynford (Norfolk) and Fort Augustus (Inverness-shire) -9.4c.
