Storm Eunice hits Meopham
Friday 18th February 2022
Initially the Met Office gave an Amber warning for wind in the South East of England. However, that warning was upgraded overnight to a vary rare Red warning

The winds started to pick around around 11.30am and were gusting at around 25mph at my home weather station in Meopham. Not an ideal location for measuring wind as the garden is quite sheltered. More accurate wind readings can be taken from the station at Clements reach farm at the top of shipley Hills road. (not the hollow).

Later on, I received a report that scaffolding had collapsed on the A227 Wrotham Road, oppositte St Johns the Baptist church.

The road was blocked and remained blocked until Monday.

A number of properties, including mine lost tiles from their roofs.
However, at around at 6.35pm there was a downpour with rain and hail and driving winds which caused a power cut. All the shops at the Parade had to close and the ATM was not working. Fortunately, the power cut only lasted about an hour.

The Met Office announced that the Needles on the Isle of Wight recorded a gust of 122 mph , which is provisionally the all time wind gust record in England.
